Abstract

This paper explains the proposal of the book Substanzbegriff und Funktionbegriff by Ernst Cassirer in relation to the problem of objectivity. The methodological differentiation between the concept of substance and the concept of function opens the way to thinking about the problem of objectivity beyond the interiority-exteriority duality. Thus, the process of conceptual formation (Begriffbildung) manifests as the gradual process of desubstantialization of form by virtue of function, and in this process of dereification of science, thought gains its freedom through the ideality of its relationships.
