Call for Review Proposals – Doing a Phenomenology of Political Life

Dialektika: Journal of Philosophical Research and Social Theory announces the present call for proposals for a critical review of the book Doing a Phenomenology of Political Life: Social Critique, Sense-Institution, and Political Emancipation, edited by Andreea Smaranda Aldea and Délia Popa, published by Springer in the New Directions in Phenomenology series.

Doing a Phenomenology of Political Life brings together a series of investigations focused on the possibilities of a phenomenology of political life. The volume explores how phenomenology can contribute to the analysis of social critique, sense-institution, political subjectivation, alienation, domination, racialization, coloniality, justice, and emancipation.

We are looking for an argumentative review, rather than a merely expository summary, capable of situating the book within contemporary debates in phenomenology, political philosophy, critical theory, and social theory. We are particularly interested in proposals that examine what conception of political phenomenology the volume advances, what its methodological and conceptual contributions are, to what extent it succeeds in linking phenomenological description and social critique, and what tensions or open questions remain unresolved.

Interested contributors should send a single email including a brief paragraph of 6 to 8 lines outlining their proposed approach, thesis, or main interpretive angle, together with a short biographical note of 3 to 4 lines indicating institutional affiliation, where applicable, and main areas of research or expertise. Contributors should also include a conflict of interest statement disclosing any personal or professional relationship with the editors or contributors of the volume, participation in the development of the book, affiliation with the same institution or department, or any other relevant circumstance.

The review should be approximately 2,000 words in length and may be submitted in either Spanish or English. Clear, rigorous, and critically argued writing will be especially valued.
