Abstract

In this essay we propose to read the relationship between inheritances of the past and revolution in Karl Marx. To undertake this task, we are going to make a critical-philosophical reading of The 18 Brumaire of Louis Napoleon Bonaparte, a historical, political, philosophical and even literary work, which through complex and meticulous descriptions highlights the drama of French history (“center of politics ”according to Marx) of the mid-nineteenth century, but also, as we will try to show, the drama of all history, together with the relationship of the revolutionary present and its inheritances, its specters of the past and the future. Based on this reading hypothesis, we propose to put this text into dialogue with other writings of Marx where the problem of the relationship between historical inheritance and social revolution is approached in a different way. In this framework, we will return to the reflections of some contemporary European and Argentine philosophers who address, either explicitly or tangentially, this problem in Marx.
