Abstract
The following essay is centred on the meaning of life in José Martí. It is an approach to the Cuban Apostle's cosmovision, mainly the philosophical problem. Throughout the History of Philosophy, the object and meaning of life have always been a constant restlessness in investigating humanity's big thinkers. The problem has been approached from the biological point of view and the teleological and anthropological one. Martí, stand out in these last two visions. Without ending up conceptualizing the object of life, he left several writings where his approach on the matter is shown. About this, he had thought to write the book “The concept of the life” that never ended up writing. It is also a look at the ontological problems posed by the author, especially the metaphysics of life: what is there after death? Is there another type of life where the soul is perpetual? Does our spirit reincarnate? These are some of the questions that José Martí reflects on.
